Audiophile Sound Systems Music and More

THE SOUND INVESTMENT OR WHY I’M AN AUDIOPHILE

    YOU SPENT WHAT!?!

Hi quality audio gear is a pretty darn good investment because after you have enjoyed it for years you can sell it almost as much as you paid for it.  Of course this doesn’t work with cheap stuff that you buy at best buy and is essentially worthless the second you walk out the door and eventually ends up as ewaste. It reminds me of the old Real estate adage, “Its better to buy the smallest house in a good neighborhood than the biggest in the worst”

    THE PRICE OF JOY

Nothing can produce the same feeling that high quality music gives you. Every day I make a point of sitting down and listening to at least one record. It never ceases to amaze me how much I enjoy it.  I have been doing this in one form or another for over 30 years.  That’s more than 10,000 hours of real happiness.  It’s hard to put a price on joy but it’s easier to swallow when you know that you’ll get most of that money back, unlike going to the movies/plays/amusement parks etc.

MINES JUST AS GOOD AND A LOT CHEAPER

Sadly many people go through their entire life without enjoying a decent stereo and with fewer and fewer “Stereo Stores” it gets more and more unlikely.  Volume does not equal quality but when you go into a big box retailer that’s all you can hear, something loud enough to overcome the ambient sound pollution. If you are audiophile invite someone over to listen to a record, if you are not yet then invite yourself over to ones house.

JUST ONE SIP A DAY IT’LL CURE CANCER, YOU’LL LOSE WEIGHT AND YOUR HAIR WILL GROW BACK

Does a $10,000 power cord really make an audible difference or is it just snake oil? I don’t know, I have never had the chance to test the difference. That being said I have been able to test a lot of different components and the vast majority do. On our quest to enjoy better music there are always investments that are guaranteed to pay off.  Better speakers, amps, pre Amps, turntables, record cleaners and phono cartridges all give an immediate and significant improvement.

A ROUND PEG IN A SQUARE HOLE

Sound waves are beautiful flowing curves but when they are digitized they are broken up into little rectangles. I don’t care how many rectangles there are it will never be the same. I always invite guests that don’t believe me to hook up their ipod or grab their favorite cd so that I can play it back to back with the same song on lp.  They are always amazed at the difference. Digital music has its place and is very convenient but it is always a pale comparison to true music. Uncorrupted Analog. Besides lps last forever and you don’t lose your music because of a computer glitch.

ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY

Most of us can’t go out and drop $10k on a stereo system, but we can always start the building process.  There is some really great and incredibly affordable used stereo equipment available that helps make our audio journey attainable.  Whether it’s to begin the quest or upgrade our current system, thanks to ebay all of us can afford to invest in the joy that a great stereo brings to our lives.
